If you’re planning a trip from Madrid to Barcelona (or vice versa), you’ve probably already mapped out a direct route by train or bus. But what if we told you that making a stop at a halfway point could transform your trip into a much more incredible experience?
The way to do this is to make a stop in Zaragoza, the halfway point between Madrid and Barcelona, Spain’s fourth largest city, which combines history, art, gastronomy, and modernity.
See Zaragoza in less than a day
If you only have a few hours to see the city, we suggest the following plan:
First, leave your luggage in a safe place
There is nothing more uncomfortable than visiting a city carrying heavy suitcases or backpacks. That’s why, once you arrive in Zaragoza (if you’ve arrived at the station, here’s a detailed guide on how to get from Delicias Station to the center of Zaragoza), store your bags at Megalockers, the first and most secure luggage storage in Zaragoza, located at Calle Manifestación 24, in the heart of the historic district and just a stone’s throw from Plaza del Pilar.
At our location, you can store your luggage for a few hours or the entire day, whichever you prefer.
Discover the city in just a few hours
Although Zaragoza is a city that deserves several days to be fully visited and discovered, if you only have a few hours, you can visit the main places located in the center and historic quarter of the city, which we indicate below.
- The impressive Plaza del Pilar with its Basilica
- The Cathedral of La SEO (or El Salvador), in the same square
- The beautiful bridges over the Ebro River, especially the old Stone Bridge, from which you will have a stunning view of El Pilar (the most Instagrammed place in Zaragoza!)
- The Roman Walls
- The Roman Theater and the Forum Museum
- The Central Market
- The Dean’s Arch
- The Goya Museum
And if you’re looking to enjoy yourself and relax with a drink and some yummy food, the best option is to head to the tapas area of “El Tubo,” just 600 meters from our luggage storage facilities, to enjoy a traditional vermouth with typical dishes such as ternasco de Aragón (lamb), migas, jamón de Teruel (ham)… Is your mouth watering yet?
As you can see, Zaragoza is a wonderful stop on your journey from Madrid to Barcelona (or from Barcelona to Madrid). You can get off the train, bus, or car in the morning, explore the historic center, and be back on the road in the afternoon without deviating from your original itinerary.
A city that is well worth at least a stopover to discover. We assure you that you won’t regret it. Would you like more information about what to do in Zaragoza?
